About the event
Serenade of the ROSE opens Republic of String Ensembles’ inaugural season with two beloved works for string orchestra: Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. Barber’s Adagio is one of the most moving works in the string repertoire, known for its profound emotional depth and soaring, sustained lines. In contrast, Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, written in 1875, is filled with warmth, charm, and lyrical beauty. Its five movements move effortlessly between songful melodies, graceful dance rhythms, and lively energy. Together, these works create a program that highlights both the expressive power and rich color of the string ensemble.
